pilots, etc.

pilots, etc.

I went over to futoncritic and they report Chris O'Donnell and Aidan Quinn are doing pilots for the '05-'06 season. Whoa more film actors going to TV, I 'm thinking GM was absolutely right...9-11 changed things and even in showbiz...actors wanting more stability and steady paycheck? I don't ever recall in the last ten yrs this many film actors going to primetime TV!!!!! Remember when it was norm that film stars did some TV before doing filmwork? That TV was just a steppin stone to "greater things" Will SMith, Tom Hanks, Julianne Moore, and Robin Williams all come to mind.

Well CSI and Desperate Housewives are raking in 25 million viewers a week, and it got me thinking. Fifteen years ago, top shows like Cheers and L.A. Law was bringing in 45 million viewers a week! Guess what happened...the onset of cable. Yup as many folks maybe, I'm a cable junkie now. TLC, HGTV, Food Network...the pie has been sliced more and more. And perhaps this is good for everyone in a sense. More selection and more selection for actors to land shows. I can't believe once upon a time there were only three networks prior to 1987 and no cable til 1979!

I'm admittedly still a soap freak and it got me thinking with the slow death of soaps over the past years, and networks really not caring to fund them and slashing budgets, would there be a possibility of just showing soaps only on soapnet? Since I never hear cable channels folding (just seems to add on more and more with the older ones never fading), I wonder if this is the case. I dunno if soapnet would be wiling to buy all of the nine soaps...
