patrick dempsey

well it looks like Grey''s Anatomy is a hit, and I'm glad for Patrick Dempsey. He's been languishing for years trying to make it big in films, and just the idea he's getting credit finally is pretty endearing for a career of 20 yrs in acting.

alas I don't watch the show, though the idea that another medical drama that Grayson could have been on in fwine scrubs makes me weepy!

Paul, Peyton, and etc.

I've been reading that Paul Leyden and Peyton are reportedly still an item and IT GOT ME SAD! That means Peyton is more likely to stay in L.A. and not go back to east coast and return as Lucy. But then again, the youngin trio of Peyton,Agim, and Jessica are all gone from ATWT. truely a 3 yr stint is the norm on soaps if any. WAAAHHH.

Also, Paul and Peyton don't have any acting gigs lined up (based on IMDB). How do actors (who used to have steady acting gigs) make a living in between jobs? Do they save up enough money? Someone posted this question over on soapzone. Peyton also modelled so I guess she's saved up enough money. But Paul's LAX is axed and I'm thinking just 3 yrs on ATWT's salary (plus whatever residuals LAX made) is gone. but then hee, he's a former accountant, I think. I'm hoping he hits it big (but then I don't know any aussie who's landed a steady gig on primetime...unless he can pull a Hugh Jackman and be an Aussie actor who can play American Roles. Guess his agent has to really push this!) It makes me sad most of his ATWT fansites are dead. Also, I guess folks who do film really really just live off what they make yrs before. I mean making just a million bucks from one movie can really stretch far if you have normal standard of living and avoid the 10mil mansion in the Hills trap.

I saw Alicia Coppola's (Grayson's AW costar) resume, and I guess you really could make a living just doing a steady stream of guest spots. She also has some b-movies here and there. HOwever, after being such an entertainment junkie, I still have no clue how much actors make in b-movies---some kind of secret or something? Someone said that Lisa Peluso (who was a child actor and did ten yrsof soaps) is now a real estate agent. I guess it depends on how much the money will stretch until they have to find real jobs.

Well hottie Antonio Sabato Jr. is back on soaps (to BB) after leaving GH in 1994. DAYUM that's a long stretch btn soap stints! Guess he had to come crawlin back especially with pretty much ZERO work beyond bit roles here and there on primetime. wa wha wha

a Liason lover into a LiRic lover

well before I go work out, I needed to say something VERY positive about GH...as most of you know, I am frustrated over the show, but feelin worse for the longtimeviewers...anyway, I was reading some soapzone today, and I was in a shock of my life. Over the past couple of years, I read massive hate posts about Liz and Ric from a Liz and Jason fan. She did every thing in her power to push Liason over LiRic. Lo and behold ( mebbe I never knew) I read some posts about her wishing LiRic would get back and even stated they were very popular and that Ric (who she HATED) needed to get back with Liz. OMG Did HELL freeze over? After years of stating how bad LIRic was, she realized that hey they were really popular and Rick and Rebecca had electric chemistry. Anyhoo, in the troubling times of GH, I'm glad someone even admitted that GH has really missed the boat and just lost so many viewers.

I'm thinkin of the GH fans and watchers now...don't they realize that NO couple and NO character is really making strides now? GH has LOST 200,000 viewers over the last year, and NO other soap (other than the rollercoaster ratings of DOOL) has accomplished that feat. That to me I'm at least content about...it's like Nelson on Simpsons going HA HA.

Amber Tamblyn pulls a Jennifer Finnigan

whoa... Amber and her agent made a SMOOTH move...Amber has 3 movies lined up just in case Joan of Arcadia gets the axe in May. I guess she and her agent already know that the show's ratings are dropping wayyy to much for a second season, so this is pretty smart! Also in the midst of Lost and DH mania, Amber has has mucho less press this year than before. And before JoA, she was doing the film thang. Good luck to Amber in whatever will happen! (she gets bonus points for her and Kimberly McCoullough sayin GH really went to hell)

GH commentary I found, new hw for ATWT

Oh gosh, ATWT has axed Hogan Scheffer (despite winning Emmys for this soap) and hired Jean Passanante as HW...My heart is aching for Dusty and Grayson...wtf will they do to him? I hate the idea he's going to be very BORED in his third year on this soap. Folks are shuddering left and right that the fiftieth anniversary of ATWT is coming up with nothing to show for.

Mediadomain had an oustanding recap and commentary of GH's history linklink
and the sense of Dejavu....though with much less viewers...

The show now is back where it was in the early 70s--repetitious, focused on a few, bad lighting, cheap sets, too many newbies, plus a new problem, too many vets let go. But all soap ratings now are so poor that GH manages to stay afloat near the top. But compare GH 1980's ratings of 9 and 10 million, to today's of 2 to 3 million. And still, no one seems to see the necessity of another Monty-vision or of drastic revision!

I talk about soaps a lot cuz I'm just fascinated on how one genre could climb at its peak and die a slow death...when other countries have succeeded in sustaining it. Also, cuz I really want Grayson to get off soaps and land a primetime gig! I just saw clips of Deadwood, the only western airing now ont TV and thought, MAN, would G kick azz on this show!

Days of our Lives

I just saw the latest SoapDigest cover for Days "the Race to save the show" and I'm like WTF....didn't we do this 2 yrs ago when ratings were saggin? And now the ratings have gone back to the bottom as during that time with Reilly on board. It makes me sad because at one time this was the only soap I was ever hooked on and excited to watch every day. I still remember the return of Hope, Eileen D. playing four characters, the Mike/Austin/Carrie saga and remember the good ole days..(and in the 80s even better with Patch/Kayla, Jack/Jenn).

Dangit wish they could save other shows too!

movies sux! and more

Ok I'm back from being out of town, anyway, I saw a movie and I hadn't gone to see a movie in awhile...it's been awhile since I watched constantly in highschool/college...and I gotta say one thing: Movies today SUX! I haven't seen a good film since Sixth Sense that totally blew me away, and I dunno if I can get back into the swing again and try to watch more film. Prolly not.

Well someone said that the latest Entertainment Weekly does acknowledge GH's anniversary on 4/1...it's 42 yrs old. And you know how they did their commemoration? EW compared it to Sopranos and did a side by side chart....egads...How did we go from hospital drama, Luke and Laura, the Age of Labine 1993-1996, Jax/Sonny/Brenda to Mobsters in the AFternoon?!!!!!!!! And seriously, folks from other soaps say it's a Sopranos wannabe (James Reynolds, DOOL), the cast agrees, and now EW.

And someone mentioned something interesting...that the daytime powers don't really care about writing and doing their best for their soaps...that the networks' power is in primetime and that daytime can drop and die for all they care....sadly with the lack of press and attention and great stories this is the case. ABC's raking in the dough with DH and Lost, so it really doesn't matter if the ratings go kaput on daytime...they've already trashed history, so...

Back to Lost, well this is one reason why movies for me just don't cut it anymore. Last week, when I was expecting a regular good eppy, I GOT A FANTASTIC ONE. I was thrilled, scared, and totally shocked at the end when the light came up under Locke. And to show how freakin frustrated I was with GH, Lost actually did a great motif of "pushing down someone on the stairs" conflict. Can I tellyou again how GH sux at this??? (see Sonny , Carly, and Ric's history) Boone tells Locke about how when he was a lil boy he was a troublemaker and was bedridden. He kept ringing his bell so his nanny had to go up and down the stairs to aide him/get himstuff...well one day she fell down the stairs and died. Boone felt guilty, eventhough he was a lil child. GOOD LAWD does GH suck at this; I mean to the point of wincing!

primetime

Well, I got really bored so decided to catch some SVU episodes...dang I'm hooked once again...I saw some episodes that Peyton did and yrs ago...way back when Chris Noth was on LandO I watched. Well the nice thing is that USA and TNT reairs them bajillion times a day.

Going back to my theme of primetime is where its at and more and more film stars wanting a Home, here's a new article from TVguide.

gm mention on soaptalk

On Soaptalk, this week, Mark Teschner of Gh casting and Michael Bruno listed the soap stars most likely to be snatched up by other soaps if they were to exit their current soap. Grayson is the only CBS actor mentioned, and I thought this was nice considering we don't hear much about the CBS actors vs. the ABC/NBC ones. Mark talked about how some actors just energize people and how thirtysomething actors are very ideal (guess in terms of being soap vet along with still a sex appeal factor...the best of both worlds). I think Peyton, Mark C, and Martha Byrne are the only ATWT folks who did Soaptalk (trivia bit: Peyton's first trip ever to L.A. was for Soaptalk in 2003.

Mark goes on to talk about how some primetime stars are considering daytime becuz simply work is work and that you can really show mettle on a steady daytime show. And (also cuz more and more movie stars are going to primetime and taking away chances from TV actors!)

Feelin a mighty bad for the GH viewers

Well supposedly there was some violent mob riot montage today on Good Friday of all days on General Hospital and board after board I'm seein mucho disgust and dismay for the show. Which leads to this : today I got a 1994 issue of Soap Opera Update and golly it was fantastic! Guess when soap press was still Hot and they stil had enuf money pumped in to do great photo shoots and indepth articles (one I had seen a tape of was Maury Povich handing out MVP awards to soap stars, no talk show would do that coverage today). Well It talked about why you should watch GH, and one was Hot Love and Adventure....geez and now: Guns in the Afternoon. And the upshot is, with 3 million viewers only and situated in daytime....most entertainment followers...don't really care!

Lordy! and that sad part is that most soap actors don't have anything afterwards once they leave a show, their soap getrs axed, get fired...so I'm really really banking on Grayson and his agent/primetime contacts to get him for pilots post ATWT...(if his screenplay doesn't pan out). Why am I this fretful? Before I saw ATWT last year, the only buzz I knew of it was Katie and Simon...I saw Paul Leyden on covers, and pretty much oodles of fansites dedicated to him. Now that he's been gone for 2 yrs, and with lack of press and coverage post ATWT (not even counting LAX cuz that was Blair Underwood/HeatherLocklear driven) it's the "gone and soon forgotten" SAD! But honestly he wasn't the only one with this plight (read my other previous posts).
